Progress

I may be slightly over thinking this whole potty training thing.  But I can't help it, Alec's my first child.
We have had a recent breakthrough.   Alec will wear underwear, and go potty on the toilet.
But ONLY when Scott is with him.  Why?
Well, if you ask Alec he will say, "Because they both have...wieners."
Nothing I can do on that one.  I guess I'll have to wait until he gets confident enough to be the only one with "one" in the bathroom!

Father-Son Date

A couple of weekends ago, Scott took Alec to see his first movie in theaters, Monsters II.
I know it may seem silly to create a post just for this, but Scott loves to go to the movies. So this was quite the rite of passage.  These two were in 7th Heaven.

We've promised him that if he goes number II on the potty, then we will take him to this new movie.

4th

We had a low key fourth of July.
Because of the local fires, there was a ban on fireworks.
Last minute (the kids in their pjs, I hadn't showered in days and still in our golf clothes) we headed to downtown Denver with some friends to watch the fireworks over the capital building.

After drinking half of Scott's Mountain Dew, Alec was his own hyper little firecracker.

Ava was the cutest little snuggle bug during the show.

Ava's festive outfit. Girls are so much fun!

First thing in the morning we headed to the parade aka local advertisement show.

Later that day we headed to a BBQ.
The day before some friends had mentioned how they found a hilarious costume online.
It was too funny to resist.  I can't remember the last time I had laughed so hard when Scott tried it on.

The best part was that this was actually Scott, the guy who doesn't even dress up for Halloween and who has affectionately been nicknamed the Grinch by my family.  He sported it for about 5 minutes before he took it off.  But it was worth every penny.  I think I am going to start requesting that he wear it when I need a good laugh. Or maybe if he loses a bet, he may have to wear it to the grocery store???

Ava on the other hand, didn't think it was too funny.

I am so grateful to those who work and fight to enable us to enjoy the luxury of the freedom and to live in the country that we do.

VBS

Last week Alec attended Vacation Bible School with the local Methodist Church.
He loved it...I think.  He wouldn't say a peep to me about it, but older kids that were there with him said that he had a blast.  They sang songs, did crafts/science projects, played outside and listened to Bible stories.
He was there 3 hours a day for 5 straight days.
While the kids were in camp, some of us took turns watching the younger kids so that we would actually be kid free for a few hours.

Ava having the time of her life with her cute friends Cru and Beau.

The last day was a singing program for the parents.
I would describe this as a more hip and flashy primary program.

As seen in this video, I may have sent the wrong kid to camp this year.
(the video goes on and on and on, but I couldn't help posting the entire thing)

I can't wait for next year!

Pretty

Pink Peonies are my very favorite flower.
They also remind me of my mom.
I have loved having them in my kitchen this week and thinking of her as I walk by them multiple times a day.
